MensWork focuses on projects, programs and activities to educate, engage and organize men to be a part of the solution to sexual and domestic violence. We focus on using leadership development and community organizing strategies as the main methods to mobilize men and boys.
We also collaborate with partners throughout the area, as well as nationally and internationally. Some of the local coalitions we’re a part of include:
- Mayor’s Task Force on the Prevention of Youth Violence
- Metro Louisville Teen Dating Violence Prevention Coalition
- Metro Louisville Trafficking Coalition (www.rescueandrestoreky.org)
- Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (www.icadvinc.org)
We work with already existing groups of men to explore ways that they can respond to, address or work to prevent sexual and domestic violence.
Finally, we initiate organizing efforts that are designed specifically to speak to men, or speak on behalf of men to end sexual and domestic violence. For example, we organize a number of events for Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
We provide programming in the following counties:
- KY: Jefferson, Bullit, Shelby
- IN: Clark, Floyd
Our main programs are”Promoting Gender Respect”, Engaging Dads, Voice Your Opposition, and LIFTED. We also provide public education and professional training; and frequently organize community events such as “walk a mile in her shoes”, men’s panel discussions, concerts for gender peace, and many others.
