Every year, women in our community organize a “Take Back the Night” to speak out against domestic and sexual violence. The largest of these occurs on the University of Louisville Campus and takes place in late September as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Bellarmine University, Indiana University Southeast, and others have also organized Take Back the Night’s.
The purpose of “Take Back the Night” is for women and their male allies to shatter the silence (symbolized by night) that tends to surround sexual and domestic violence, raise awareness about the various forms of sexual and domestic violence, and provide support to those women and men who have been victimized.
in 2010, MensWork organized the first ever “Men’s March in support of women taking back the night”. This, now annual effort provides man with a chance to demonstrate our support for women, and our support for women “taking back the night.” We organize a separate march of men who then join the Take Back the Night Rally.
