Promoting Gender Respect (PGR)

Promoting Gender Respect (PGR) is our signature program.  We work with community partners to provide a leadership program for male adolescents on how they can work to prevent bullying, dating abuse or sexual harassment.  This 10-12 week  program focuses on developing the skills of male adolescents to organize and speak out against violence and abuse.   We also work to develop the capacity of adult mentors who work more consistently with these adolescent men on how they can best support adolescent male leadership development and model men respecting women; and with the organizations on how the organize can infuse gender respect in its environment.

PGR has been adopted by the Tennessee Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence, and the California Department of Health.

In 2011, one of our programs included the Y-CAP program of the YMCA of Southern Indiana.    The men who participated organized a donation drive for the Center for Women and Families, and successfully generated approximately 200 pounds of donations to support the battered women and their children served by the Center
